Gregg Bonti Tutoring

Role: Brand Identity Designer

Tools: Photoshop, Illustrator

Gregg (or Mr. Gregg as his students call him) came to me looking for refreshed branding for his tutoring business. At the time, his website had no clear brand identity as a text-only website and he voiced concern that it preveneted him from standing out as the go-to choice for parents. He wanted his website to feel vibrant and friendly, reflecting his Brooklyn community.

My job was to design a logo and brand identity that struck the right balance of playful and polished.

Gregg tutors elementary-age kids so I wanted to embrace a visual language that reflected the classroom: bright primary colors with chalkboard green, hand-drawn textures, symbols of learning and knowledge.

I even took inspiration from Gregg’s tattoo of a lightbulb, giving the branding a more personal touch.

The typography had to represnt the brand as qualified but left room for fun and a bit of whimsy.

Continuing to balance those elements, custom illustrations would provide a more premium feel by adding more pops of color to break up text.

These graphics remained minimalistic in shape to elevate the page without distracting the eye. But minimalistic didn’t mean boring, the elements included a mix of both geometric and organic shapes with tactile textures.
